This program was an interactive one planned with all WIL members in mind, an opportunity for all members to hone their skills as donors, supporters, and funders — and to share their ideas on how WIL as an organization approaches philanthropy.
Drawing upon the principles outlined in the book Doing Good Great: An Insider’s Guide to Getting the Most of Your Philanthropic Journey, WIL member Ava Lala helped members think about how they can be more effective donors — collectively through WIL, as well as in their own personal giving. We used small-group discussions to workshop ideas for how the eight pillars outlined in Doing Good Great can be applied to strengthen WIL. The pillars were designed to help donors balance their head and their heart in order to create long-lasting impact.
Ava is Director of Geneva Global, a philanthropic consulting company that specializes in international development. She worked with CEO Doug Balfour to publish the book, which draws on Doug’s 25 years of experience in international development, as well as the company’s experience in identifying, vetting, and working with local nonprofits in over 100 countries.
