Stand with Refugees: Building a More Resilient Community

February 23, 2017

WIL welcomed Anh Hua and Juliane Ramic of Nationalities Service Center (NSC) as our speakers. Anh is the coordinator for the Anti-Human Trafficking Program. She gave a brief history of NSC, and an update on refugees served. Anh gave an update on programs in 2016, highlighting WIL’s work with NSC to support its mission. Juliane is the Senior Director of Refugee and Community Integration. She spoke of present challenges to NSC in response to the global humanitarian crisis, and highlighted the challenges as an organization serving refugees in the current political and social environment.

Among the topics discussed was an active discussion of how community organizations can advocate for refugees, and approaches that NSC can take to maximize the effectiveness of engaged community members.
