WIL is participating, through their Micro-Finance Committee and the International Alliance for Women's Village Bank Sponsorship Program, offering small loans to women in third world countries. The goal was to fund at least one village bank which would provide collateral-free loans for women who need working capital to start or expand small businesses in impoverished areas. When the women pay back their loans the money is reused for new loans in their communities.

Exciting news - WIL has now funded five MicroBanks, one, each, in Mexico, Nicaraga, Ghana, South Africa and Guatamala.

If you would like to make a donation to another WIL bank, go to http://tiaw.org/donations/donation-microenterprise.asp and on the drop-down menu of "Select MicroBank:", you will find "WIL of Philadelphia Village bank". The form will allow you to donate funds to the next WIL MicroBank.

Sad news - WIL's co-founder and TIAW's former president passed away. WIL is honoring her through funding a Village Bank and naming our annual Inspiration Award to Bobbie Gohn.
